On June 12, David Venegas Reyes was granted a protective writ on the following basis:
“….The Department of Justice shields and protects DAVID VENEGAS REYES against the action taken by the lower court judge of the Judicial District of Tlacolula, Oaxaca, consisting of a pre-trial detention order issued on April 21, 2007, case number 157/2006, for the crimes of sedition, criminal conspiracy, and arson.” (en español)
David Venegas should already be out of the Ixcotel prison; he is still behind bars, however, due to an authoritarian decision that is not only an injustice and aggression against the people of Oaxaca and all honest, dignified people, but also a totally illegal measure. Ulises Ruiz and his accomplices want to hold him for two more months with no reasons given and no basis for doing so. Why? What for? What right do they have?
We call on all of you to show your support for David any way you can on Monday, July 16, at Mexico’s embassies and consulates, at the offices of the state of Oaxaca throughout Mexico, or in Oaxaca. This is the date that the people of Oaxaca canceled the official Guelaguetza in 2006, the day that Ulises Ruiz wants to reinstate his Guelaguetza with the people behind bars. Let Ulises Ruiz celebrate his Guelaguetza behind the same bars that he uses to try to break David Venegas and the people of Oaxaca.

¡LLAMADO URGENTE POR DAVID VENEGAS!
El día 12 de junio le fue concedido un Amparo a David Venegas Reyes, con el siguiente acuerdo:
“ÚNICO: La Justicia de la Unión ampara y protege a DAVID VENEGAS REYES, contra el acto que reclama del Juez Mixto de Primera Instancia de Distrito Judicial de Tlacolula,Oaxaca, consistente en el auto de formal prisión dictado el veintiuno de abril de dos mil siete, en la causa penal 157/2006, por los delitos de sedición, asociación delictuosa y daños por incendio.”
David Venegas debería estar fuera del penal de Ixcotel ya, sin embargo sigue tras las rejas por un acto de autoritarismo que es ahora no solo una injusticia y agresión en contra del Pueblo de Oaxaca y de toda la gente honesta y digna, ahora ese acto de autoritarismo se está convirtiendo en un acto ilegal. Ulises Ruiz y sus cómplices quieren retenerlo dos meses más, sin dar razón, sin tenerla. ¿Por qué? ¿Para qué? ¿Con qué derecho?
Les hacemos este llamado urgente para que el lunes 16 de julio, el día en que el Pueblo de Oaxaca canceló la Guelaguetza oficial en 2006, el día en que Ulises Ruiz quiere volver a hacer su Guelaguetza con el pueblo tras las rejas, a se manifiesten en las formas que puedan en las representaciones diplomáticas de México, en las oficinas del Estado de Oaxaca en todo México o en Oaxaca mismo. Que Ulises Ruiz tenga su Guelaguetza tras las mismas rejas con las que quiere quebrar a David Venegas y a todo el Pueblo de Oaxaca.
