My wife and I are taking a cruise to the Mexican Riviera on Norwegian Cruise Lines in April 2008. We depart Los Angeles on April 8 and make our first stop in Acapulco, followed by Zihuatanejo, Peurto Vallarta and Los Cabos returning to Los Angeles on April 16.

An unexpected interruption in my vacation has occurred requiring my wife and me to depart the cruise two days early, in Los Cabos, on Monday, April 14 connecting through LAX to Seoul, Korea. Please advise as to which documents, other than our passport, will be required in order for us to exit Mexico on April 14.

I visit Mexico often by air and so I’m accustomed to having an exit card when I depart back to the US; I’m sure, in this case, I will not have an exit card due to the fact that we will enter Mexico on a cruise ship.

I am looking for an e-mail address for the Mexican Consulate in McAllen, Texas, where I can send information about free classes which are offered without restriction to prospective students of ESL, GED, Employability Training and Cultural Arts through the Pharr Literacy Project. You can call me at (956) 648-2488 or e-mail me at elvakeith@aol.com. Our Winter Quarter classes begin in January 2008, and I would like to post them at the Consulate as a point of information for persons needing these services. Thank you. Elva Michal

Mexican Consulate

Dear Sir or Madame,

The world is watching your military killing, gassing and beating un-armed teachers and other protesters, and torturing those detained.

You need to get the fraudulent governor out of Oaxaca and start clean. You are once again discrediting the governing system of your country.

There are urgent reasons for this uprising. You can kill and disappear some protesters, but brutality will not “disappear” their deeply felt reasons for protesting. Military force will never win this battle for you.

You need to address the causes. Why not assign your police and military to distribute food, to repair schools and water and sewage systems, to provide transportation, train them to assist doctors, assign them to help with the farming.

Work with the protesting groups to form city and state governments that truly represent them and serve their genuine needs as citizens. Otherwise you lose, and beautiful Mexico loses. The world is watching you.

Sincerely,

Ruth Valdez,
a teacher and voter
