I was appalled when I read Connolly's article, and was thrilled to hear Jill set the record straight so clearly and so quickly. The harm done here is not simply that the author overuses the term "riot." It's that the peaceful nature of 7 months' worth of protest is completely and irresponsibly overlooked, while the government is applauded for "restoring order" to the streets of Oaxaca.

Let us please, please reach out as far as possible on this issue to set the record straight. It is hard enough to get reliable information about Oaxaca in the US (and Mexico for that matter) without outlets like the WaPo blurring the truth by the carelessness of omission.
