El Enemigo Común Supports Scott Campbell

El Enemigo Común wholeheartedly supports our collaborator Scott Campbell in his efforts to hold the Oakland Police Department (OPD) accountable for attacks against Occupy Oakland activists and specifically for shooting him in the leg with a bean-bag round without the slightest pretext while he was filming the Oakland police after the successful one-day general strike against Wall Street corporate and financial power on November 2. We also wish him well in the healing process, which has been slow and painful despite all claims about the use of such projectiles being harmless.

Scott is one of the plaintiffs in a suit filed by the ACLU and National Lawyers’ Guild alleging that the OPD committed flagrant violations of the rights of the demonstrators on October 25 and November 2, including the unwarranted use of tear gas, flash bang grenades and other projectiles which have resulted in several injuries.

We strongly condemn all forms of police violence for which the city of Oakland has been particularly notorious, up to and since the police murder of Oscar Grant and ensuing rebellion, and demand justice for the targets of such violence.
