Long live los enmascarados, los que conocen el enemigo comun, como si conocia Bradly.
What a dance life and death engage in.
Some people (governments) with their eye scanners, infrared cameras, gated buildings and communities pretend to themselves and the world that they are immune to death. They project an invincibility because money buys everything (like paramilitaries!)…or so they think.
But it is because of that fear, misunderstanding of death (and life) that they attempt to control all of life (even me!) leaving in its wake the grotesque of “modern” society : bioengineered fruits and vegetables just one example, reactionary violence and war other examples.
Bradely dared to dance…and to create, film and document. Bradley dared to cross boundaries and document la vida de los que no se dejan ser olvidado, en Oaxaca, en Chiapas, en las favelas en Brazil, en Nueva York, Seattle, Miami.
In Oaxaca yesterday, at a blockade, Bradley met a bullet meant to stop rebellious life in Oaxaca. A bullet meant to kill him. It did kill him and four others were killed as well while injuring yet others. How many will miss them, their rebeldia?
Misunderstood they are: the paramilitaries and economic/political forces trying to extinguish popular dreams of freedom. They forget the dance of life and death. Where there is death there is life they forget. Where there is life there is light. How many more know of Oaxaca, now? How many more will be moved to take action in defense of those who choose to be free in Oaxaca?
*******”Querer ser libre, es empesar a serlo - Wanting to be free is to begin being free” Emeterio Betances de Puerto Rico, leader of the 19th century Grito de Lares struggle against Spanish oppression and the impending US invasion of the island.******
During the struggle to stop US military bombing practices in Vieques, Puerto Rico, I met Bradley eager to put his white skinned camoflague/privelage to use for the people of Vieques and for an act of “moral obedience” the Welfare Poets and Sisters in the Struggle organized at the statue of the Bull in Wall Street. After succesfully shining more light on the people’s righteous struggle in Vieques I would see Bradley throughout NYC, where we would engage in plenty of conversations about popular struggles around the world. In his eyes I could see the victorious vision of those that dare to challenge authortity. It’s the same eyes of Viequenses who stopped decades old bombing practices on their island and celebrated the burning of US military vehicles that once tormented their daily lives.
Bradley will be missed, as will be the companer@s killed on the frontline of our new world. Bradley will be missed but YOU, reading this, don’t miss your opportunity to play a role on the frontline of our new world. Bradley didn’t hesitate- the people in Oaxaca haven’t hesitated, the people in Borinquen aint hesitating, in Chicago, el Bronx, all over. Everyone’s got a part to play!
