JUSTICE FOR OAXACA!!
PUNISHMENT FOR THE KILLERS OF LORENZO SAMPABLO CERVANTES!!

Lorenzo Sampablo Cervantes was killed by Oaxaca state policemen and PRI party paramilitaries in the early morning hours of August 22, 2006, outside the commercial radio station “La Ley,” occupied by the APPO in the city of Oaxaca.

That morning the people of Oaxaca had eleven commercial radio stations under their control in response to a paramilitary group’s violent evacuation the morning before of the government radio and television stations held and run for 21 days by women from the social movement.

On May 4th, the third anniversary of the state repression to the people of Atenco, the Mexican Consulate in New York City was peacefully “taken” by the pro-zapatista Movement for Justice in the Barrio (Movimiento por Justicia del Barrio).

The authorities decided to close the Consulate all day. In a press conference, the Consul, very upset, denounced and placed blame on the members of The Other Campaign in New York.

From February 20 – 22, 2009, the Second Statewide Congress of the Popular Assembly of the Peoples of Oaxaca (APPO) was convened at the Teachers’ Hotel in the city of Oaxaca. Seen as both an important and controversial event, it inspired much discussion and debate inside and outside of the congress. On February 20, 21, and 22, 2009, the Second Statewide APPO Conference was held, with 702 participants, including delegates and council members, from all regions of the state of Oaxaca and from the different sectors in struggle –indigenous peoples, campesinos, unions, communities, and families of political prisoners, with the purpose of reorganizing, restructuring, and determining the political direction of the APPO.

POLITICAL DECLARATION OF THE POPULAR ASSEMBLY OF THE PEOPLES OF OAXACA. AUGUST 9th, 2007

TO THE MEDIA
TO THE PEOPLE OF OAXACA
AND TO THE PEOPLE OF THE WORLD

The past electoral process for the renovation of the local congress is a political thermometer to value the distrust of the people and of the citizenship of the system of parties and the institutions. In front of the APPO call to the vote of punishment in opposition to the PRI, PAN, PVEM, PANAL AND ALLIES, today it has been proof that the people of Oaxaca have waken up, and that these people could locate with accuracy to the different electoral actors for their lack of elementary commitments like justice, among many others. The intelligent people also recognized those who act against them, when the solidarity to demand the exit of the assassin Ulises Ruiz Ortiz (URO) was more needed. It was not, nor is the aim of the APPO, to give the vote to any political party at all; and the abstentionism is a proof of the lack of credibility of those who contended in the elections, and represents the face of the antidemocracy of the political parties, which are far away from the people’s inspirations, repeating the political control by party bosses and the estates of power.
