Lorenzo Sampablo

La lucha sigue tres años después del asesinato de Lorenzo Sampablo Cervantes-esposo y padre de cuatro hijos-quien fue asesinado en la madrugada del 22 de agosto 2006 por paramilitares bajo las órdenes del Gobernador Ulises Ruiz Ortiz. Un total de 26 muertes han sido documentadas durante el movimiento popular en el 2006 cuando miles de oaxaqueños se unieron a denunciar el mal gobierno y más de 500 años de injusticia.

En esta entrevista, Trinidad Sampablo (hermana) y Paul Sampablo (sobrino) nos platican sobre Lorenzo y su decisión de defender sus valores de justicia y dignidad cuando él, y miles de otras/os, salieron a las calles a reclamar los medios de comunicación y su destino. También nos platican como van a celebrar el día de los muertos este año para así mantener a Lorenzo y el espíritu de resistencia vivo en Oaxaca.

Phil writes: April 21st, 2008, was the first day of the Security and Prosperity Partnership Summit, in which the presidents of Mexico and the United States, and the prime minister of Canada met to discuss security and trade, as well as the neoliberal and militaristic integration of North America. In protest, the local community organizers of New Orleans held the People’s Summit, in which visiting activists met with local organizers to discuss the history of racism, oppression and capitalism in North America and how to resist those things now and into the future.

April 18th, 2008 – FSRN writes: The recent assassination of two community radio reporters in Oaxaca’s Triqui region has triggered widespread international condemnation. Mexico has ranked as the deadliest country for journalists in this hemisphere for years. The two young reporters were from a self-declared “autonomous municipality” in an area characterized by decades of bitter violence. Community activists and the Mexican government’s National Human Rights Commission visited the area earlier this week on a fact-finding mission. Vladimir Flores has the Latest from Oaxaca.
