Protest at Mexican Consulate and Street Theater in Portland

Oregon Oaxaca Solidarity writes: On December 22nd, 2006, in response to an international call for support from the Zapatistas, a delegation will present a list of human rights abuses at the Mexican Consulate (1234 SW Morrison) at 2:00pm. Afterwards, the procession will hop on the MAX and head over to Holladay Park (12th and NE Multnomah, outside Lloyd Center) to dramatize the events of the Oaxacan struggle. Anyone who shows up will be encouraged to be an extra. 🙂

The Mexican Consulate chief in Portland will soon join the cabinet of the illegitimate President of Mexico, Felipe Calderon. While hundreds of people in Oaxaca have been detained illegally, ‘dissapeared’, or murdered, the new Mexican President and the mainstream press internationally have remained mum on the matter. Because the PDX Consulate has claimed there was no evidence of abuse, we have took the time to compile a list for them.

Please show your support for the people’s democracy of Oaxaca, which has proved to everyone that a better world is possible and practical. Your presence will also give a voice to those in Mexico who stood up for their freedom and paid the ultimate price. In the words of Subcommander Marcos:

“The attack that our brothers, the people of Oaxaca suffered and suffer cannot be ignored by those who fight for freedom, justice and democracy in all corners of the planet”.
