CODEDI: “No Militarization in the Marginalized Communities”

The Committee for the Defense of Indigenous Rights (CODEDI) of Santiago Xanica makes the following denunciation:

To the news media
To the independent organizations
To the anarchist collectives
To the people

Once again the intimidation of marginalized peoples is on the rise in our state. They send us military troops to disarm the citizens when the reality is that entire families don’t have a thing to eat. Today, many children didn’t eat breakfast before they went to school, but the federal government sends more battalions to do the job of intimidating Mexican people.

Military troops came to Santiago Xanica on April 25 to do general searches in the town at night under federal orders. In the nearby regions they searched peoples’ houses in the early morning hours, arrogantly pushing their way in, raping, stealing money and jewelry. That was their intention when they came to Xanica, but the compañeros and other citizens stopped them from doing it. They stayed in the town three days, and today they went up into the mountains. Our question is, what are they planning next? The children are terrified and ask fearfully: When will they be back? Are they nearby? What will they do to us? And everyone in the region lives with this fear. That’s why we’re making this denunciation.

It’s clear that, with the current epidemic, they’ve picked just the right moment for what they’re doing, without paying any attention to why the epidemic is spreading rapidly. Who has let this happen? If there’s malnutrition, bad health, no basic services, no jobs in the states, what do they expect?

THAT’ S WHY WE PEOPLES IN RESISTANCE SAY:

NOT ONE STEP BACKWARDS!

FREE THE POLITICAL PRISONERS OF XANICA!

NO MILITARIZATION IN THE MARGINALIZED COMMUNITIES!
