On May 27, compañera Carolina Saldaña denounced the presence of Renny Cushing in Mexico. Renny Cushing has been a legislator for the ruling Democratic Party in the United States and is trying to involve himself as one of the U.S. organizers who will participate in the caravan to Ciudad Juárez organized by the Movement for Peace with Justice and Dignity. But what wasn’t known is that Renny Cushing is one of those responsible for the attempt to block the participation of Mumia Abu-Jamal in the Fourth World Congress Against the Death Penalty in Geneva, Switzerland in 2010. As well, Renny Cushing maintains ties with the fascist Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) in the United States, which for almost 30 years (29 ½) has tried all means to have the death penalty carried out against Mumia Abu-Jamal.
Compañera Carolina Saldaña is a dedicated journalist who has collaborated with several independent media groups in Mexico and the world, among them the website of Noticias de la Rebelión; as well she is an active member of Friends of Mumia – Mexico. The journalist Al Giordano of NarcoNews, responsible for bringing Renny Cushing to Mexico, has defamed the journalistic work of compañera Carolina, branding her a “counterinsurgent” and accusing her of spreading “bullshit” for having denounced the opportunism of Renny Cushing and his maneuverings against Mumia Abu-Jamal.
The Noticias de la Rebelión Collective expresses its repudiation of the defamations made by Al Giordano and our total backing for the journalistic work and support of various social movements that compañera Carolina Saldaña has undertaken. Similarly, we want to state our repudiation of Renny Cushing’s participation in the Movement for Peace with Justice and Dignity’s Caravan to Ciudad Juárez and our demand for the immediate and unconditional freedom of Mumia Abu-Jamal.
Down with the prison walls!
