The newly formed Mexico Solidarity Committee is pleased to announce that a representative of the Teachers Union in Oaxaca will be at the meeting on Thursday, October 19th in San Francisco to give us an update on the struggle in Mexico.
Fernando Mendoza, a teacher from the State of Oaxaca, Mexico, who is on the Executive Board of Section 22 of the SNTE, the Teachers Union. This union is part of the Democracy Tendency (Tendencia Democracia) that has helped to lead the struggle for a uniform wage for all teachers in Oaxaca and for the resignation of the notoriously corrupt Governor of Oaxaca, Ulises Ruiz.
At our October 19 meeting, we’ll hear an update from Fernando Mendoza and plan our activities in the coming month. During the week before November 20, when the popularly elected Andrés Manuel López Obrador is inaugurated President by the National Democratic Convention (Convencion Nacional Democratica or CND), the Mexico Solidarity Committee will be planning educational events and mobilizations in defense of the people of Mexico’s fight against fraud, for justice, democracy, and freedom.
