WORDS OF BRAD WILL,
ECHOES FOR REVOLUTION
A celebration of his life (1970 – 2006)
And the popular uprising in Oaxaca
WITH VIDEO, SONG AND SPOKEN WORD
On October 27th in Oaxaca, Mexico, Indymedia journalist Brad Will from New York City was shot twice and killed by agents of the Mexican government. He was targeted while holding his video camera, filming demonstrations by the Oaxacan months-long popular uprising for democracy and justice. Three local Mexican activists were also killed that day. Many more have died, been disappeared, arrested or injured during the course of their peaceful struggle, victims of violent Mexican state repression.
this revolutionary moment –
you know it is building, growing, shaping: you can feel it
trying desperately for a direct democracy…
OAXACA is a point of light pressed through glass,
a genuine peoples revolt, ready to burn or show the way…
whisper of the lancandon jungle in the streets…
you see it in their faces – indigenous, women, children: so brave
from “Death in Oaxaca,” by Brad Will, published October 17th, 2006
