TO THE PEOPLE OF MEXICO
TO THE PEOPLES OF THE WORLD
TO ALL SOCIAL ORGANIZATIONS
TO ALL GOOD-HEARTED PÉOPLE

WE DENOUNCE THE FOLLOWING: On October 23, around a thousand townspeople and neighbors in Santa Cruz Huatulco (members of the Citizen Rights Defense Committee of Santa Cruz Huatulco and the Committee for the Defense of Indigenous Rights, CODEDI), victims of a 16-million-peso fraud perpetrated by the company headed by Alfonso Mireles and former Municipal President José Humberto Cruz Ramos (2005), decided to occupy a 27-acre lot to demand the distribution of land plots and an immediate overall solution for families defrauded by tourism developers and municipal authorities.

On October 25, beginning at 3 o’clock in the afternoon, the Mexican Marines, ministerial police and riot cops besieged and harassed both the occupiers of the lot in question and their supporters. They beat and arrested 6 people for demonstrating their solidarity with the occupiers, who had continually demanded a dialogue in order to resolve a conflict that began in 2010 due to the negligence and ineptitude of the state and local governments.

On October 26 at 6 o’clock in the morning, riot cops, municipal police, and ministerial police violently evicted the occupiers. Those arrested were bound hand and foot with ropes and placed face-down on the dirt road. In all, 16 people were arrested and 60 wounded; those arrested were released the following day due to pressure exerted by organizations and neighbors.

The Sector H campesinos have not only been defrauded; now they’ve been repressed for protesting and demanding respect for one of their most basic rights: the right to decent housing. [2]

DEMANDS:

We cannot assimilate, accept, or agree with the perpetuation of the repressive policy of the primate: the government headed by Ulises Ruiz Ortíz used murder and imprisonment against anyone who disagreed with him and demanded respect for their rights.

Therefore:

WE DEMAND an end to the repression against the Citizen Rights Defense Committee of Santa Cruz Huatulco and the Committee for the Defense of Indigenous Rights, CODEDI.

WE DEMAND that charges be dropped against the 17 people arrested even as they engaged in a protest to demand justice and the right to decent housing.

WE DEMAND a solution to the demands of the Sector H campesinos.
